Outpatient Liver
Biopsy
- You will be at the hospital three-four (3-4) hours.
- After your procedure you may drive yourself home.
- On the morning of your procedure, you may have a liquid
breakfast only. A liquid diet has no solids in it such as broth, Jello® , Popsicles® ,
pulp-free juices, cream soups, custards, eggs, white bread/toast, milk shakes
and ice cream.
- Report to the Outpatient / Short Stay Department at: ___________________________

Please note the following:
- You may drive yourself home after the procedure.
- Stop all aspirin or non-steroidal and anti-inflammatory medication for
seven (7) days prior to the procedure unless otherwise specified by your
physician. (ie: Advil, Ibuprofen, Vioxx, Nuprin)
- If you need pain relief, you may take all regular non-aspirin medications
as usual the day before the procedure. Tylenol is the preferred brand.
- If on Plavix or Coumadin and blood thinning medications, please adjust
as follows:______________________________________________________
- If on arthritis medication or any new medications, check with physician
for specific instructions.
- No strenuous or heavy lifting for three (3) days after your procedure.
